CELEBRATING 2-YEARS IN BUSINESS

It’s hard to believe we are approaching our 2-Year Anniversary! We took a leap of faith and moved from California to rural Iowa. It was by the Grace of God we were given the opportunity to open a restaurant in our rural community. We opened our doors March 18, 2020, the day Governor Reynolds put a pause on indoor dining and required all restaurants to pivot to takeout due to COVID-19.

Michael and I would like to take a moment to THANK everyone who has dined with us or ordered takeout over the past two years. We feel truly blessed to have the support of our rural community and all the surrounding towns. Not only did we survive the pandemic, we managed to thrive and grow as a result of your unwavering support! We are truly humbled by it all and feel blessed to have received three awards in the short time we have been open: 2020 New Business of the Year from the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce; 2020 Rural Operator of the Year from the Iowa Restaurant Association; and 2021 Outstanding Dining Business from Iowa Tourism.

THANK YOU – Governor Kim Reynolds, Director Debi Durham (Director – Iowa Economic Development Authority), Jayne Armstrong (District Director – Small Business Administration) and Jessica Dunker (President and CEO – Iowa Restaurant Association) for your support and leadership and EVERYONE whom have supported us over the past two years!!!

Michael and I truly love serving you ALL! We look forward to many more years to come. Cheers!

Rural Restaurant Operator of The Year

Congratulations to Mike Muller, owner and operator of Grace on Main in Elk Horn, for being chosen as the Iowa Restaurant Association’s 2020 Iowa Rural Restaurant Operator of the Year! California natives Mike and Estrellita (Ilee) Muller knew they were taking a leap of faith when they left their life in Sacramento to open a restaurant in the tiny rural Iowa community of Elk Horn. The couple’s aptly named Grace on Main Restaurant was slated to open March 18, 2020—the day after the Governor closed dine-in restaurant service statewide in response to COVID-19.With a pizza-centric menu, Muller was prepared for some amount of carry-out, so rather than debuting by welcoming people in the doors, the couple flung open a front window and handed pizza through to customers. Mike says, “We invested everything we had in a rural Iowa community that we’d visited less than half-a-dozen times. We believed the people and the lifestyle Elk Horn offered our family would be worth the risk,” said Muller. “And at the hardest time imaginable, Elk Horn proved us right.” That commitment to enhancing the hospitality options and culture of rural Iowa, is why Mike Muller, owner/operator of Grace on Main is the Iowa Restaurant Association’s first ever “Rural Restaurant Operator of the Year.”To celebrate with Mike and all of the other award winners, get your tickets for the Celebrating Excellence Award Ceremony and Grand Tasting Gala!
